Right now you may be in the throws of holiday craziness, but step back for a moment and think of next year. Namely, next February, because tickets for the Virginia Wine Expo are on sale now.
This event, which takes place during the weekend of February 26-28, is your chance to taste more than 350 wines from more than 60 virginia wineries all in one spot. The event starts Friday with the Virginia Governor’s Cup Grand Tasting. Tickets for this limited, opening-night event cost $75 per person or $125 per couple. Wineries open a special bottle or two that won’t be available for tasting during the rest of the weekend, there are free snacks, and the Governor’s Cup Award is presented.
Saturday and Sunday is the walk-around grand tasting. Tickets cost $35 per person in advance or $45 at the door. With these tickets you get to taste all the wine, as well as some gourmet foods. There are also special seminars on subjects like pairing wine and chocolate, pairing sushi and wine, pairing wine and Indian food, etc., for additional fees.
On Saturday night, local publication Richmond magazine presents another special event called Sparkling & Sweets where sparking Virginia wines are paired with delicious desserts. Tickets for any or all these events can be purchased online.
As if this wasn’t enough, Richmond wine shops and restaurants often participate in the expo excitement and offer special events and tastings during the week leading up to the event.
If you want to come to town for some wine-tasting fun, book a room at the Grace Manor Inn now. We are only a short drive (or cheap taxi ride, the way to go if you’re tasting!) from the Greater Richmond Convention Center where all the action takes place.
