No not the creepy Alfred Hitchcock birds… well, actually, it might look just a little like the Alfred Hitchcock birds when 10,000 Purple Martin’s swarm Richmond’s beautiful Shockoe Bottom on their way to South America. Here in the River City, we throw a festival when this slew of flyers stop into town! This year “Gone to the Birds” takes place on Saturday, August 6, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the 17th Street Farmers’ Market.
You’ll get to see the birds roost, learn a bit more about these beautiful, purple feathery friends and even take home a gourd to encourage Martins to roost in your yard. There’ll be purple gelato, purple martinis at area restaurants and more purple fun! Enjoy.
