Squirrely Sports

We’re not sure about the peanuts and cracker jacks, but you’ll certainly
find a good time at the Richmond Flying Squirrels season opener tomorrow
(4/7) at 7:05 p.m.

What are the Flying Squirrels, you ask? It’s our city’s funn-filled Double-A
affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. The team boasts that they make the
games so fun, in fact, they had to add an extra “n” to the word in order to
contain it all.

You’ll find fireworks this Thursday and Friday, as well as on 19 other
nights this season.

There’s also a new “extreme” menu, because why go small when watching
baseball? If you’re feeling brave, try the Golden Gate Burger, a creation
that’d make Adam Richman proud. Two 6-ounce Black Angus patties are topped
with 3 mozzarella sticks, then drenched in chili and cheese, and served on a
crustini bun. You can wash it down with a beer from the Budweiser Thirsty
Acorn, too (best name ever for a baseball-park bar!).

Bringing your sweetheart to the game and just can’t stand that pesky
seat-rest separating you? Get tickets in the Cupid Section with love-seat
style seating, another addition for 2011.

Tickets range from $87 to $11 per game and can be purchased by calling
804-359-FUNN.

Can’t make the opener but want to catch a game next time you’re in town? The
season runs through September with lots of games throughout the week. Go
here to view the schedule.
