Yes, Richmond has a slew of ethnic food festivals, but would you have expected a taste of South Africa? Just about an hour outside of Richmond, Grayhaven Winery hosts the South African Food and Wine Festival once a year, and it happens to be this weekend on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The owners of this boutique winery hail from South Africa, and in order to celebrate their heritage they are offering tastings of their own wines, plus they’re hosting two winemakers straight from South Africa who will pour their wines and talk about winemaking.
There’s also a full menu of South African food for purchase (think grilled peri peri chicken and chilled lychee for dessert) and a full lineup of music from the region. Tickets cost $25 in advance or $30 at the door and include your wine tasting as well as the entertainment. More wine is available for purchase by the bottle or glass. Don’t miss Grayhaven’s famous sangria that’s perfect on a hot summer day.
