It’s Mummy Time!

Get an in-depth taste of Egypt the next time you’re in Richmond at Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb, the latest big exhibit at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. From now through March 11, you can learn about the life and death of Nesperennub, a temple priest who lived 3,000 years ago, as well as about mummies and the famous Egyptian death rituals.

The exhibit starts with a 3D movie, and then leads into Nesperennub’s mummy and coffin, as well as more than 100 items that were important in Egyptian society and funerary rituals. You’ll see several more mummies, along with Egyptian jewelry, a gilded mask, and more.

While you’re at the museum, plan to check out Amuse, the chic restaurant located on the third floor of the gallery with beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows and an airy, modern decor. The expert bartenders there create an inventive, seasonal cocktail selection that currently includes special sparkling concoctions that are perfect for the holiday season.
