Holiday Events at Maymont

A tour of Victorian mansion Maymont makes for a fun activity any time of year, but a holiday tour is extra special. Starting Friday (11/18) and running through January 6, when you tour the mansion, you’ll get to see it all decked out in holiday splendor. There’s a lavish Christmas tree, along with other decorations that bring an 1893 Christmas to life. Maymont also hosts a variety of special events to help Richmonders get into the holiday season.

Make an elegant holiday wreath at one of Maymont’s wreath workshops on November 29, 30, and December 1. In this class, Maymont’s decorating experts will teach you to make spectacular wreaths, just like the ones that adorn the mansion. Classes cost $28 each and registration is required in advance. This year there’s also a special Deck the Halls workshop on December 3 where you’ll make a boxwood wreath, a mixed-greens mantle adornment and a door swag for $40 per person.

At An Old-Fashioned Christmas on December 4, you’ll get to see the Christmas-fied mansion, take horse-drawn carriage rides and listen to holiday music. There’s also a special St. Nick’s Christmas Parties at 2 p.m. with stories, songs, games and party favors for the kids.

On December 9 and 16, check out Maymont by Moonlight, where horse-drawn carriages carry visitors to the mansion, which is lit by luminaries. Travel back to 1893, and take a peek into how the Dooleys would have celebrated Christmas Eve. Tickets cost $25 per person and space is limited, so register early if you’re interested.

Maymont also is also offering a special candlelit tour that focuses on Victorian Christmas traditions on Tuesday, December 13. Tickets cost $10 per person and can also be reserved in advance.
